This toolbox offers an overview of the various types of citizen engagement initiatives that can be created as well as the related challenges that can emerge when impeding them. The aim is to inform and support policy-makers as well as other practitioners that work with citizen volunteers on the common pitfalls. For this reason, the final chapter of the toolbox includes practical guidelines that can help policy-makers in creating citizen engagement initiatives to work towards an enhanced community engagement framework.
