The Stockholm Criminology Symposium
The Stockholm Criminology Symposium is an annual event featuring over 500 attendees from close to 40 countries.
The Symposium which was held for the first time in 2006, is organized by the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå, Brottsförebyggande rådet), which is an agency under the Ministry of Justice.
The primary purpose of the Symposium is to create an environment where international criminologists, policy makers, practitioners and others engaged in criminal policy matters can take part of the latest research findings of importance for crime policy.
The participants will be able to discuss strategies, methods and measures to reduce crime and improve levels of safety in society. The Symposium is organized by the Swedish National Council of Crime Prevention (abbreviated Brå in Swedish) on behalf of the Swedish Government.
The registration for the Stockholm Criminology Symposium 2026 is open.
The Symposium Programme
The symposium programme traditionally follow two main tracks. One theme is based on the work of the prize winner(s) and the other theme is based on contemporary criminology. The programme includes a large number of parallel sessions, as well as the prizewinners' lecture. Following the research interest of the prize winners, the main symposium theme will be A better Understanding of Migration, Ethnicity and Crime. The second specific theme is The Power of Crime Prevention Programs and the third, more general theme, is Contemporary criminology.
