EUROCRIM Conference
The annual Conference of the European Society of Criminology (ESC) brings together criminologists and professionals in related fields. It provides a platform for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from all over the world to discuss and share their work on various aspects of criminology, criminal justice, and related social sciences. In 2026, under the theme "Frontiers of Criminology", these discussions will continue in Warsaw, Poland, on 9–12 September.
Eurocrim 2026: Frontiers of Criminology
Current fluid and post-modernist societies are undergoing rapid changes. We are constantly expanding frontiers in various dimensions: technological, developmental, environmental, and more. All these societal transformations have a significant impact on the field of criminology.
Initially, they result in changing crime patterns, giving rise to new types of undesirable and harmful behaviours, which are typically - though not always - classified as formal crimes later on. At the same time, older forms of criminal behaviour gradually decline or undergo modifications.
Such changes could be attributed to the use of new technologies, which lead to societal changes in the fields of communication, mobility, work, cognition, and education. Other shifts have been induced by the turbulence brought about by global heating as we reach environmental frontiers. This prompts the question of responsibility for the harm these changes have already inflicted on some individuals, and the uncertainties surrounding future impacts which we cannot yet fully anticipate.
