Theme: Mobile Phone Theft

The UK’s National Mobile Phone Crime Unit (NMPCU) has launched a new initiative to help fight mobile phone theft. Mobile phone owners, across the UK, can now add their details to the National Mobile Phone Register by logging onto www.immobilise.com. This free service allows police to return lost or stolen phones to their rightful owners.

Theme: Domestic Violence
The National Crime Council of Ireland has recently published a major study on Domestic Abuse of Women and Men in Ireland. The report and a summary report is available at www.crimecouncil.ie or copies may be obtained by emailing Sara Parsons at info@crimecouncil.gov.ie.

Theme: Burglary
The UK has set up ‘Operation Liberate’ to reduce the number of distraction type burglaries, which involve criminals posing as genuine callers in order to gain entry into a person’s home. A new National Database, created by West Midlands police force, went live in April 2005 with crimes and intelligence being input onto the system.
