Enfield Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy |
Country of Origin: |
United Kingdom |
Project description: |
The local Safer and Stronger Communities Board (SSCB), working with the Drug Action Team and other partners from local government, licensing representatives and Trading Standards, co-ordinated a strategic approach to reduce the harm caused by alcohol such as crime, disorder, anti-social behaviour and domestic violence. An Alcohol Harm Reduction Board was established to implement and performance manage delivery of the strategy. A range of targets around the reduction of alcohol related incidents and awareness raising were put in place, including the setting of improvement plans for 'problem' licensed premises. Early results have been encouraging with a marked reduction of alcohol-related incidents at the time of the 2006 football World Cup. So far, the Project has achieved the following - · co-located police licensing officers with the council Community Safety Team and Licensing Enforcement Team · instigated the development of sharing violence data between the SSCB and our two local A&E departments · established a team of peer trainers to provide alcohol awareness training to frontline professionals and community groups · launched Safer Pubs - a best practice scheme for on-licenses · developed a training programme and information campaign on alcohol-related domestic violence · reviewed the new tools and powers available to tackle alcohol-related crime and disorder, and identified training needs for enforcement officers (to be delivered shortly) · developed data collection systems for alcohol-related crime and ASB (for example by including a new alcohol field on the ASB database)
